harrison [adopt a lovey wednesday]

we had a really bad storm one night a couple weeks ago.  i remember it specifically because the pounding of the rain woke me up at 4 something in the morning and i’m a girl who likes her sleep.  the next day, a langley city worker was cutting the grass along the side of a road by the freeway when he saw something ahead of his mower and stopped.  it was a cage, like a raccoon trap, and in it was a beautiful, scared cat.  it became clear that this cat, harrison, was purposefully abandoned there with no houses nearby and just a little bowl left for him.  how long he was there is anyone’s guess.

sigh.  i just don’t get it..

harrison is now residing at the langley animal protection society  and lemme tell ya, he doesn’t hold an ounce of resentment and is just such a love.  he enjoys cuddles, ear scratches and hearing all about your day.  harrison is very friendly and would make a great bed time teddy bear replacement.

harrison is a male, approximately 6 year old, neutered cat.  if you want to hug this guy forever, go on and call LAPS at: 604-857-5055.  if adopting harrison is something you can’t do at the moment, he’d certainly appreciate if you helped spread the word.

hendrix + lily [adopt a lovey wednesday]

their mama was diagnosed with alzheimer’s and their papa was sent to a care facility.  with the only family they’ve ever known gone, 3 year old hendrix + lily are now temporarily residing at the langley animal protection society, where they have been for a long 123 days.

i remember going to unlock their kennel door at the cat cottage so trav + i could photograph them, when i noticed a sign that said something along the lines of “not to be removed from kennel.”  i peered inside and saw 2 sets of glowing eyes, then a little black paw ventured through the bars towards my hand.  my heart hurt accepting that the little souls in there were obviously not doing well.  the cat-filled environment at the cottage was stressful and ultimately, hendrix + lily were reacting to people from a place of fear.

hendrix + lily have since been moved to new digs..  the boardroom of the main building at LAPS.  and they are doing a million times better!  these guys have proven themselves to be absolutely lovely.  both kittehhhs are actually very soft in demeanour, sweet + cuddly.  they even tolerate the dogs that come for a visit while they chill in their posts.

but hendrix + lily need all of our help to find a real home.  sadly, there is a stigma against black animals and they have a much lower adoption rate.  it’s stupid.  nonetheless, these two sweethearts have had no interest.  they could go to separate homes but of course, everyone including hendrix + lily i’m sure, would prefer they be adopted together (seriously, 2 cats is not very different than 1.  i promise)!  if you can find a place in your hearts for these darlings, we’d seriously LOVE you.  please go on and call LAPS at: 604-857-5055.  if adopting either // both of these darlings is just not possible, please consider spreading the word.  thank you so much!

ralphie [adopt a lovey wednesday]

i put my camera on the ground so i could easily hold him in my arms.  after several minutes of babying, i put him down on the grass so we could get to playing // photographing.  aaand, that’s when ralphie went straight for my camera, grabbing the strap and pulling it across the play yard.   my eyes got wide + i ran over to intervene as trav laughed + proceeded to document the scene.  {see photo #1}

from that moment, all ralphie wanted to do was play + look as cute as ever.  he raaaan through around the yard, as fast as his little legs could carry him, tripping, stumbling and accidentally somersaulting over himself.  he will make you laugh.  and that is a promise.

ralphie came in as a stray to the Langley Animal Protection Society.  he is a 5 month old, 4.2 lbs maltese mix PUPPPPPPPY!  he is super wittle and super young so he will require house training.  ralphie is outgoing, energetic, playful, HILARIOUS with a smidgen of attitude.  he will need to go to a home without small children but he loves playing with other dogs.

if you think you could give this wee man the forever home he deserves, please call LAPS to speak to his awesome trainers: 604-857-5055.  and as always, if you can’t adopt ralphie, he’d be forever grateful if you spread the word.  :)

euro trip

we started this blog with the intent to show our personal work, our lives, who we are.  hell, it even says at the top of our blog “these are our adventures, this is our life.”  but instead, i (ash), in charge of all things social media, got scared.

scared of being judged.
scared of not being good enough.
or worse..
scared that nobody would even care to look.

trav + i are insanely fortunate to have some incredible mentors, brilliant artists + explorers of the photographic industry that warned us that this would happen.  we were advised that we can’t give a shit about how many views // likes //comments we get or don’t get.  we’ve been told over + over, “keep going.”

but i let it happen anyway.  i let fear win.  i’ve been silent.  i pretty much have only been showing our ‘adopt a lovey wednesday’ posts because that’s not about me.  that’s for the animals.

but we’re at a pivotal point.  and i’m sick + tired of being a baby.  my over thinking is going to continue to be an issue, i know.  but i’m damn determined to try + overcome my mind.

with some dirty laundry aired, i’ll leave you with a few favourites of our recent adventure to amsterdam + york.

admin - thank you, heather for your very sweet words. :)

Heather Giuriato - Just read about you two in Langley Times, so had to check out your blog. First off I want to say good for both of you following your heart and fulfilling your dreams, we could all learn from you in that regard. Don’t EVER let someone else define who you are! Sure we all appreciate accolades but you are living your dream and making it a career you love and that shows up in your photography as well as your blog. As a fellow animal lover I want to thank you both for all you do to help LAPS, you give of your time, which is one of the most precious commodities any of us have in our busy world. You have reminded me to look for the joy in the simple things that surround us everyday, so thank you. I will definitely be watching your careers as I know you will achieve great things with your art!

admin - thanks so much for the love, guys. i so hope you all know how ridiculously awesome you are. :)

paul anglin - The beauty of your photographs is that they allow us to see a part of your soul. The images are filled with peace, tranquility and love. The simply beauty found in the everyday. Thanks for sharing

Fiona - We are very similar,Ash. Every day there is some war waging in my head as to my validity as a photographer, writer, artist and whether anyone else other than me cares. but having people who believe in you pushing you forwards is sometimes what’s needed to jump over those hurdles. You’re lucky that you have those mentors there to guide and nurture that seed, giving it roots and believing in it’s growth.
Keep pushing and keep creating.
We love you work and your ambition.
much love, from Sydney x

Amy - Guess what?… Everyone that has told you not to care is right. These images are some of your strongest to me. I love them. Like really really really LOVE them. So proud of you keep bringing me this kind of stuff Lady. I can’t help but look when I know that it has your heart in it. xoxoxo

Katie Bauer - Love these photos, guys! ….and I’m always having that struggle that no one will like what I have to offer. Insecurity is my worst enemy, but I have to keep reminding myself that those thoughts aren’t important, and they are like a cage. Thanks for sharing; I was encouraged!

daisy [adopt a lovey wednesday]

adventuring.  swimming.  watching a movie.  snuggle seshes.  binging on cookies.

daisy just wants to be BFFs.  she wasted no time getting acquainted with trav + i at the Langley Animal Protection Society, immediately all like, “omg, you’re so funny!  wanna see my belly?  can i have a cookie?”  daisy loves her people with all she’s got.  she is house trained, loves to play + be a little silly and she really wants to please you.

daisy is an 8 year old labrador retriever.  she is looking for a home full of love.  she does not always share well and can be possessive about her toys + food, so a ‘no children home’ is required for little miss.  although she can make dog friends, she’s a people lover through + through and would happily be an only child.

if you adore miss daisy, please call LAPS at 604-857-5055 to speak with one of her trainers.  if adopting daisy isn’t something that’s possible at the moment, we/she would reeeeally appreciate it if you spread the world about her beautiful self.  :)
